AIR and the New Jersey Association of Mental Health and Addiction Agencies co-host annualNational Suicide Prevention DayConferences, Back to School: Take a Breath, in early September. Each year, the conference features different experts and a particular area of focus.
The most recent conference in 2016 focused on bullying and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, while still providing valuable information and insights that are relevant to all youth and young adults, as well as their parents, teachers and healthcare providers. This year’s conference featured a keynote presentation on The Effects of Trauma on Classroom Learning by George Scott, EdS, LMFT, Statewide Resource Coordinator, Traumatic Loss Coalitions for Youth; Inspiration for Overcoming Challenges and Living a Full Life by Motivational Speaker Mark Farrell; and a panel discussion with youth, Coping with Intolerance and Bullying, moderated by Phillip T. McCabe, CSW, CAS, CDVC, DRCC, Health Educator, Rutgers University School of Public Health.
